I have grown to enjoy the TV show Community partly because I went to a community college for a while and partly because it makes me laugh out loud, even when I'm watching it alone. Community is a really big buzzword which I've heard a lot in coming to CIU - people have said they've never experienced community like this, that there's just this huge community feel, and I have to say that though I've only been here for two weeks, I haven't totally understood what they meant (this could in large part be because people mean so many different things when they talk about it!)
While here, I have experienced great conversations with people over biblical topics and I have loved being around people who value and cherish Christ and who are seeking to live in obedience to him. It is great to hear people's stories and to so often hear a reference to missions or a desire to serve overseas (wahoo!). But are these random conversations what was meant when community was referenced or was there something more?
I started talking with my roommate some about it and then to a few other girls and was delighted to hear that they also had been pondering this issue. More then that, they wanted to develop this concept as much as I did! As a result, we have decided to try to meet weekly to talk about classes, fellowship, pray and build community.
And so a baby step will be taken - we may falter, we may fail, we may realize that trying to schedule this totally doesn't work. But we are being intentional. We are saying that this is what we want, and we are pursuing it.
